As a teacher, who do you consult when you feel your administration is doing a bad job?
This is my first year teaching 5th grade, and work for a principal and assistant principal who do not display professionalism. As school leaders, they use fear as a tactic to control student behavior and as a result, students do not respect them. They berate their teachers in front of students, undermining the teacher's authority. They give subjective evaluations without explaining how teachers can improve their methods. They do not offer many opportunities for group in-service points to help teachers improve their classroom strategies or provide a space for teachers across grade levels to professionally share their teaching strategies. They are inconsistent when it comes to doing walk-thrus in classrooms to monitor instruction. For the past month and a half, between the both of them, only one walk-thru was conducted. They are reactive, not proactive and oftentimes the principal and assistant principal are not on the same page, causing confusion among staff. As a first year teacher I feel I have been inadequately supported by my administration. My work atmosphere is not nurturing and encouraging; it is stressful and fear-inducing. How do I file a complaint with my district?
