How long does it take for chlorine to clear up in a pond so that we can put a turtle in?

We have previously put chlorine in the pond to get rid of algae but we're thinking of adding a turtle to the pond now. Will the pond be forever dangerous for the turtle to live in since there was once chlorine in it? Or will the chlorine in the pond eventually clear up and the turtle will be able to live in the pond? I know turtles can't survive in chlorine so I don't want to take the chance with a pond that used to have chlorine in it.
