Is it ok to do a pool shock after putting in chlorine in a pool?
For the longer term, for your health, try googling "natural swimming ponds". In the shorter term, if your pool is clear and clean, you shouldn't need to shock it. If you are going away for a week, you can get "stabilized" chlorine which should last up to a week (make sure pH balance is right first, as you will have trouble correcting afterwards) or you can get sustained release blocks/tablets that will release a controlled amount of chlorine (usually in a special floating holder) over a longer period of time.
